Recognizing Domestic Violence in Child Welfare Cases

Description:This presentation will begin building skills for participants around recognizing domestic violence in child welfare cases. The presentation will discuss basic information regarding the dynamics of domestic violence and the characteristics of batterers. Specific information will be presented on the prevalence of domestic violence in child welfare, the impact on children, and promising practices in addressing domestic violence through the child welfare system.

Trainer: Toni Jensen received a bachelor's degree in social work in May of 2003, and received a Master's Degree in Social Work and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in December 2007. She currently serves as the Domestic Violence Programs Service Specialist for the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation. She has served in this role, specializing in domestic violence and sex offenders since December 2006. Previously Ms. Jensen worked for the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska, first as a case manager for domestic violence and sexual assault victims, then as a project coordinator, facilitating the creation of a supervised visitation program for domestic violence victims and offenders. Much of Ms. Jensen's professional career has been in the field of domestic and sexual violence, working both with victims and offenders.
